on "School Safety" |
October 15, 1998 |
Broadcast
Overview
[1998's] string of tragic violent
incidents refocused the American public's attention on school crime and
safety. Many programs and strategies that can reduce or prevent violence
in schools have been identified. The White House Conference on School Safety
and the Satellite videoconference examined some of these models and provide
information for communities to take immediate measures to increase school
safety. School staff, students, parents, juvenile justice authorities,
youth servicing agency personnel, business leaders and others can each
contribute in specific ways. Schools and communities are encouraged to
pull their resources together through a collaborative, long-term prevention/intervention
process.
