Mentoring Matters

In January, 2002, President George W. Bush proclaimed January National Mentoring Month. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), in association with the Juvenile Justice Telecommunications Assistance Project (JJTAP) of Eastern Kentucky University, is pleased to announce an upcoming live satellite videoconference highlighting the importance of mentoring. The 2-hour broadcast, ”Mentoring Matters” will be aired nationwide on Friday February 7, 2003, from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. EST.   It will also be available for viewing on the World Wide Web.

The broadcast will highlight the importance of mentoring  as a proven and effective approach to delinquency prevention; examine mentoring in community-based, work-based, faith-based and school-based settings; and share strategies for effective mentor recruitment. A panel of national experts will be on hand to answer questions and discuss issues with the viewing audience.

Audience

This broadcast  is designed for State and local juvenile justice agencies, policymakers, judges, law enforcement, probation officers, business leaders, teachers, school and community leaders, faith-based organizations and others interested in meeting the needs of today’s youth.
