Overview
The Hamilton Fish Institute, and its partners in the Hamilton
Fish Consortium, present a national satellite videoconference October 25, 2001
entitled School Safety by Management and Design.
The videoconference will feature three ongoing demonstrations
of school safety programs that are coordinated by Consortium partnerships at
Eastern Kentucky University, the Morehouse School of Medicine, and the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Pre-recorded presentations and members of a
live, interactive panel will discuss elements of a comprehensive approach to
school safety through management and design. Some of the topics to be covered
include:

- Rules and communication
- Parent/teacher/administrator involvement
- Training
- Reporting Systems
- Justice system
- Crime prevention through environmental design
- Monitoring
- Managed access
- School maintenance
- Responsibility and procedure

Broadcast Recap
The Hamilton Fish Institute and its Consortium partners will present the
third in a series of national satellite videoconferences on school safety on
October 25, 2001.
The videoconference, entitled School Safety by
Management and Design, will feature three ongoing demonstrations
of school safety programs that are coordinated by Consortium partnerships at
Eastern Kentucky University, the Morehouse School of Medicine, and the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Pre-recorded presentations and members of a
live, interactive panel will discuss strategies for school safety through
leadership, management, and design. You may view the conference via a satellite
downlink location or listen to it live on the web at www.hamfish.org/broadcast.
Audience
This broadcast is designed for educators, school administrators, boards
of education, parents, law enforcement agencies, government officials and
policymakers, youth services organizations, community agencies, public health
professionals, and all others interested in school safety.

or complete and return the form on the right panel of this brochure.
About the Institute
The Hamilton Fish Institute evaluates school violence prevention methods
in order to determine what works and what can be replicated to reduce violence
in America's schools and their communities. For more information, visit our web

Registration
If you would like to coordinate and facilitate a downlink site in your
community, please complete the registration form and submit it by October 18,
2001. You must register to receive broadcast coordinates. If you are
unable to host a site, but would still like to view the videoconference, please
contact us for sites registered in your area.
To view the program, you will need a facility that has a
steerable satellite dish, capable of receiving the coordinates. The broadcast
will be available on C-Band and Ku-band. Agencies to contact in your community
to schedule a viewing site are cooperative extension offices, community
colleges, local school systems, universities, and local cable television

Site Facilitation
Facilitating a downlink site is easy and presents a good
opportunity to network with local organizations or agencies. Each
coordinator/facilitator will receive a Participant Packet, Facilitator
Guide, and Technical Information Guide a week before the broadcast.
You are requested to copy the Participant Packet to distribute to each of
your site's participants on the day of the broadcast.
Video Tape It!
The broadcast may be videotaped for use as a future resource. To obtain
an edited videotape of this or previous broadcasts, please visit the Hamilton

after October 25.
